So yesterday, I wrote about our situation and what led us up to this point.
Today I am going to tell you how we went about CIO and how the night actually went.
**NIGHT #1 (Tuesday)**
I fed her as normal around 8:00. At about 8:30 I walked her to the crib and she started waking up. I put her in the crib, patted her and told her good night. As predicted, she started crying.
We set a timer on my phone and went in after 3 minutes (actually B went in the first couple times).
He patted her, re-situated her, and shh-ed her a few times.
He went in again after 6 minutes. And then 12 minutes. And then about every 10 minutes.
I went in a couple times too so she knew I was still there (she's SUPER attached to me right now).
We decided we wouldn't let her go past an hour. If she was still crying at that point, we'd pick her up and bounce her.
After about 30 minutes she got quiet. We waited. 10 minutes later she started again. So we started going back in to pat her.
It took a total of about 45-50 minutes before she was asleep. We breathed a sigh of relief. And said a prayer of thanks to the Lord.
The boys went to sleep in our big bed and I settled in to my mattress on the floor. It was going to be my job to deal with the CIO throughout the night.
Around midnight, she woke up crying. My friend told me when they went through this, they went by the suggestion that if it had been 5 hours or less, she wouldn't feed her upon baby waking. We used this rule too. Since it had only been 4 hours, I went in after about 5 minutes and patted her again. As soon as I started patting, she fell back asleep.
I didn't hear from here again until 5:30 in the morning!
She went 9.5 hours without eating and only woke the one time.
That means, for the first time in over 6 months, we went an entire night NOT BOUNCING ON THE BALL. I cannot tell you how great that felt.
I am so incredibly thankful the Lord got us through last night pretty painlessly.
Yesterday I did the same method for her nap. She took an early one because she was still very tired, and then I put her down again around 10:00. She cried for 15 minutes and fell asleep.
This is huge you guys.
**NIGHT #2 (Wednesday)**
So last night we went about it the same way. I nursed her at 8:00, held her for a little bit trying to get her to burp. But she was just crying while I was holding her so I put her in the crib at about 8:20 and she went right to sleep. No crying at all. Girlfriend was exhausted.
She woke up first at 11:00, cried for about 5 minutes ( I went in once to pat) and fell back asleep.
Woke up again at 2:00, cried for less than 5 minutes (I went in once to pat) and fell back asleep.
Woke up again at 3:30. This time I fed her. After she ate, she went back to sleep (no crying) until 7:15 this morning.
Today big brother has school in the morning, so ideally I like her to nap while he's at school. Unfortunately, we've been running into the issue of "car naps" and she totally took one today on our way home after dropping him off. So she's crying in her crib, for going on 45 minutes. I loathe the car cat nap.
I'll update at the end of the weekend as we attempt to put Caden back in the room sometime soon. Thanks for all your encouragement and support. I can't stress to you how freeing it is to not be bouncing and nursing every couple of hours throughout the night.
