Weekend of Fellowship

This weekend we got to spend a lot of time with a bunch of great friends!
Friday: Mallory, Matt, Rowdy and Megan all came into town for the weekend. We all went to dinner with some other people then came back to our place and played some games. Mallory and Matt got to stay in our tiny little living room on an air mattress but we were glad to house them :)
Saturday: Everyone hung out most of the day, I made all kinds of goodies to snack on during the day. That evening was Annual Banquet at the Campus House so we all got ready for that. Matt and Shannon also stopped by before the banquet for a little bit to hang out. It was great to see them again! After the rather lengthy banquet (3 hours) we came back here again and packed ALOT of people in our apartment. I think the record was 10 people. But we had fun all squeezed in :)
Sunday: We started the day out right with monkey bread :) Then church, followed by leftovers and watching our wedding video, which Megan had been dying to watch all weekend haha. Sadly, everyone is gone and our apartment is back to quiet and empty. Here are some pictures that capture our great weekend:Dinner at the Stadium in MattoonMal and IShan and I in our matching yellow and black :)

Aww, Megan and Rowdy :)

'Tis the Season

Because today is nearly 60 degrees, I decided to wear my first skirt of the season....my legs enjoyed the fresh air. Up there with my love for scarves is my love for skirts! Here's a peak at some for this season:

These little numbers are from Gap.com and comes in several other colors.
So break out the skirts and flats, it's that time!!
On a different, unrelated note, everyday on my way to Practicum in the morning, I pass a Llama farm. I just can't understand this...what is the purpose of a llama? You don't drink their milk, I'm pretty sure you don't eat THEM...but these people have about 10 llamas. What's the point?

Easter Weekend

What a wonderful weekend!
Brent and I went to my parents house Friday evening for the whole weekend. Eric and Mary were up through Saturday with Natalie and Nolan, and Brian and Angela came over with the kids Saturday afternoon. It was a packed house! But so much fun.
The kids did an egg hunt inside since it was so cold this weekend.
Now it's Monday and we're back in the swing of things. I started my Practicum today at Paris High School and it went really well! I'm looking forward to getting to teach in the classroom.
No news on the job front...I turned my resume in to a couple places but still waiting to hear.
Still love looking at our wonderful wedding pictures :) Now we have to narrow it down to about 20-30 pictures for our book! Wish us luck :)

Job Update

Well, I found out this evening the Culligan job is a no-go. I had to call the lady to find out that she offered it to someone else. I was sad and frustrated, but now I'm seeing that wasn't where God wanted me so we're praying for more doors to open.
And speaking of open doors...I checked out the help wanted section of the paper found an ad for a female part time filing, errands, miscellaneous work job. So I called and spoke to an elderly woman who apparently needs someone to grocery shop for her, take her to appointments and organize/shred some files for her a couple days a week. I have an "interview" with her on Wednesday so we'll see....could be quite interesting!
On the bright side, this is week 2 of no classes for me as I was supposed to begin my Practicum at Paris High School today but they are on Spring Break this week so I don't have to go! Also, I get a hair cut this week :)
Oh and, I went to Tuscola today and found a shirt for $1.99 at Old Navy. That's practically FREE! I don't have any new pictures of anything to post, so here's one I found on my computer of me and a cross I made out of the kids' legos...
"One Way" haha

Week of Rest

So this week has been our spring break which has brought mixed emotions.
1) Worry=I had my Culligan interview on Monday and was supposed to find out Tuesday morning. I went all day and heard nothing so I called on Wednesday. Apparently the interview she had for Tuesday morning had to re-schedule for Thursday and she was going to call me after that. Well today is Thursday and I never heard anything, which means I'll be calling tomorrow to find out what the deal is. It's made my week a little rough because I've been literally holding my phone in my hand the entire week waiting for it to ring.
2) Frustration=STILL NO WEDDING PICTURES!! Yes, we're coming up on 3 months in a couple days and still nothing. It's getting to be a bit ridiculous. Actually a lot ridiculous.
3) Joy=Brent and I tried out the tennis rackets we got for our wedding. It was great because the weather was nice enough to be outside playing. And I learned I really enjoy tennis! So now while we're stuck here all summer we have a free outdoor activity to participate in. If any of you also play tennis we'd love to take on another couple :)
Overall, it's been a relaxing week. We got to visit with Brent's mom and family last weekend and most of this week we hung out with my parents. Now we're enjoying these last couple days before classes start back up!
Oh yes, I also buzzed Brent's hair. I'm going to start doing it myself to save us some money!

YAY GOD!!

So I'm just so excited I had to share the news: I have an interview at Culligan on Monday!!
They called me this afternoon to set one up and of course I said YES. We were going to be at my parents house Sunday-Tuesday but I thought I should probably go to this interview since I'm in such desperate need of a job. So we'll be in Charleston Monday for the interview then heading to Williamsville Monday evening-Wednesday.
Anyway, please be praying for this job--it's getting rough financially with only one part-time job. Don't worry, I'll keep you all posted :)

Good Decision

My Sophomore year at EIU, I was on COM (Community of Ministers) at the Campus House (the group of students that lead small groups each semester). I loved having this leadership role, however my Junior year I decided to get a job which took up a lot more of my time so I left COM. This semester I decided to become a member again and lead a group of girls since Brent and I will be here for the next year or so. I'm really glad I chose to be a leader again. It's made me closer to a lot more people and my group of girls this semester are great! Tonight we had a "fun night" and combined our group with a guys group that also met at the same time as ours. We ate snacks and played Mad Gab (such a fun game, the girls played hard and almost won). We really had a blast just playing and getting to know each other better.
I thought I'd share this if anyone is trying to make a decision such as the one I made. While I believe as Christians we all need to be discipled by someone, it is also important to be a disciple to somone or some group of someones. We're not all given the spiritual gift of leadership, but we are all commanded to lead people to Jesus and hold fellow Christians accountable in their walk.

Weekend Re-Cap

We had a wonderful spring-feeling weekend! Friday after classes and work (Brent's work, I still don't have one) we went to Champaign to invest in a Brita water filter from Bed Bath and Beyond (the way we figure it we'll save more money than buying water bottles constantly). We also used a giftcard to eat at Chili's for dinner. Then we met up with our pals Matt and Shannon for some dessert and Cranium :) We're already looking forward to our next get-together at the end of the month. Here are some Cranium photos:

Shan and I beat the boys, of course :) We were much more focused. Saturday we literally did nothing. We enjoyed sleeping in and laying around. I take that back--we did do SOMETHING:

Haha, Brent helped me highlight my hair! What a wonderful husband :) It only took about 3 hours, but he was a trooper and pulled all that hair through the holes. The outcome is great and it definitely saved us some money!
Sunday we went to church and then Brent's dad and his wife came over to take us out to lunch and hang out a little bit. I had to leave after dinner to go to our campus minister's baby shower! Danah is due at the end of this month and we can't wait to see what little baby Himes will look like :)
